Growing concern surrounds the disappearance of CIZA Thadée, a Burundian citizen who was reportedly arrested by police officers upon his return from the Republic of Rwanda.
Identity of the Missing Person
CIZA Thadée, 46 years old, originates from Rubagabaga Hill, Mbirizi Zone, Gatara Commune, in the current Butanyerera Province (formerly Kayanza Province). He currently resides in Matongo Commune. He is married and the father of five children. His family continues to live on his native hill.
Background and Circumstances Prior to the Incident
For nearly twenty (20) years, CIZA Thadée had been living in the Republic of Rwanda, specifically in the Kimironko neighborhood, where he was engaged in business activities. He regularly traveled between Rwanda and Burundi to visit his family.
In February 2026, he was involved in a road traffic accident in Rwanda that resulted in a fractured arm. Since that incident, his health condition and ability to work reportedly deteriorated significantly, seriously affecting his livelihood.
As a result of these challenges, he is said to have decided to return permanently to Burundi in order to reunite with his family and continue receiving medical treatment.
Circumstances of the Disappearance
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, CIZA Thadée left Rwanda to return to Burundi. According to available information, he entered Burundian territory through the Mparamirundi area.
Sources indicate that shortly after his arrival, he was allegedly arrested by police officers and taken to an unknown destination. Since then, no official information has been provided regarding his whereabouts, place of detention, or current condition.
Current Situation and Concerns
To date, CIZA Thadée remains missing. His phone is unreachable, and his family has received no information about his whereabouts. This situation has caused deep concern among his relatives and members of his community.
The family of CIZA Thadée calls upon the competent authorities to urgently provide clear information regarding his situation and to guarantee his physical integrity and fundamental rights.
The family also urges the National Independent Human Rights Commission (CNIDH) to closely monitor this case, ensure that the truth about his disappearance is established, and verify that his rights are fully respected.
