IRADUKUNDA Alexandre is reported missing after being arrested by intelligence services and taken to an unknown location.
Alexandre is a military trainee, ID 99114, based at IOS camp, Mudubugu training section. He is 21 years old and originally from the village of Muhogoti, in the former commune of Rusaka, Mwaro province (today Commune Mwaro, Gitega province).
He had been undergoing military training for approximately two years. Recently, he was training at the Mutukura military camp, in the former Cankuzo province. In early January 2026, he and other trainees were transferred to Mudubugu camp, located in Gihanga, in the former Bubanza province.
🔶 Circumstances of his arrest
Upon arrival at Mudubugu camp, IRADUKUNDA Alexandre fell ill. On February 18, 2026, he was authorized to travel to Bujumbura to receive medical care at the military base located in Musaga.
According to our sources, he successfully reached Bujumbura before being intercepted. In the city center on the same day, he was arrested by intelligence agents, gagged, placed in a vehicle, and taken to an unknown location.
Our sources indicate that he was arrested, accused of feigning illness in order to collaborate with the armed group M23, which is active against the Congolese government. If these accusations are accurate, they raise serious questions, as authorities at Mudubugu camp had recognized his illness and issued official permission for him to travel to Bujumbura for medical treatment.
To date, the whereabouts of IRADUKUNDA Alexandre remain unknown. All his communication channels are unreachable. His family and fellow trainees express deep concern over his disappearance.
We call on the Burundian intelligence services to clarify the place of detention of IRADUKUNDA Alexandre and to communicate transparently regarding the reasons and circumstances of his arrest.
