On July 28, 2026, he allegedly seriously assaulted Emmanuel MANIRAKIZA, the representative of the prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>In our previous alert, we also reported allegations that Desir\u00e9 UWAMAHORO had benefited from a particularly close relationship with the former prison director, Christian SIBOMANA, including spending time together consuming alcoholic beverages in the director\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>We subsequently relayed the concerns of prisoners and called on the Ministry of Justice to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate measures in response to the reported incidents, which could pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of prisoners.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Investigation by the Ministry of Justice<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>According to information we have received, following the publication of our report, the Ministry of Justice initiated an investigation into the situation at Ngozi Prison.<\/p>\n<p>This process reportedly led to the decision to replace the prison director.<\/p>\n<p>On August 19, 2026, Ministerial Order No. 550\/371 of August 19, 2026, appointing NIBIZI Jo\u00ebl as Director of Ngozi Prison, was signed by the Minister of Justice, Alfred AHINGEJEJE.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Prisoners Welcome the Decision<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Prisoners at Ngozi Prison have welcomed the replacement of the former director, Christian SIBOMANA, describing the decision as a relief after what they describe as a particularly difficult period.<\/p>\n<p>King Umurundi Freedom also welcomes this decision, as we believe that the issues previously reported raised serious concerns regarding the dignity, safety, and rights of prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>We reiterate that all prisoners are equal before the law, and no individual should be allowed to violate the rights or dignity of another person because of their position, influence, or relationships.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage the Ministry of Justice to continue closely monitoring the situation at Ngozi Prison and to ensure that the new administration carries out its responsibilities in accordance with the law, human rights standards, and the principle of equal
