What is behind this situation? And, above all, how long will it continue?<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p>For several years, many Burundians have faced serious difficulties obtaining or renewing their driving licences. Within the Special Road Police (PSR), the institution responsible for issuing these documents and headed by <strong>Police Colonel CITEGETSE \u00c9tienne<\/strong>, the situation has persisted, causing growing frustration and concern among citizens.<\/p><p>Whether they are first-time applicants or people seeking to renew an existing licence, citizens are reportedly being issued temporary documents while they wait for their permanent driving licences.<\/p><p>Initially, the situation was attributed to a shortage of the equipment required to produce the licences. However, authorities recently announced that the required equipment had finally been received. Despite this announcement, citizens continue to wait, with no clear timeframe for when the licences will actually be issued.<\/p><p>Even more concerning, some citizens have reported alleged corruption practices surrounding the issuance of the few licences reportedly being made available. These allegations require verification by the competent authorities, but they are further fuelling a sense of injustice, opacity and frustration among users.<\/p><p>Meanwhile, citizens remain largely without satisfactory answers. They are asking: <strong>Why can such an essential administrative service remain paralysed for several years? What is actually preventing the issuance of driving licences? And what concrete measures are being taken to resolve the situation?<\/strong><\/p><p>The situation is particularly problematic for people who need to travel abroad with their vehicles. The temporary documents issued to them may not be sufficient to cross international borders, creating additional difficulties for those concerned.<\/p><p>In light of this prolonged situation, King Umurundi Freedom calls on the authorities and relevant institutions to take urgent action, clearly explain the reasons behind this prolonged disruption, and ensure that citizens have access to a public service that is accessible, transparent, efficient and free from corruption.<\/p><p><strong>Citizens have a right to answers.
