A tragic accident occurred on Kivuvu hill, in Kabarore commune, Kayanza Province, where a landslide struck a coltan mining site. The incident claimed the lives of four miners, who died instantly, while several others were injured and taken to health facilities in the province for treatment.<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>

According to eyewitness accounts, the collapse happened while workers were inside extraction pits. Trapped by the sudden fall of earth, some had no chance to escape.<\/p>

What has further fueled public outrage is the glaring lack of safety measures at the site. Several sources report that the miners were working without proper protective equipment, exposing them to constant danger. The absence of helmets, appropriate boots, and other basic safety gear raises serious concerns about working conditions in these mining operations.<\/p>

The silence of those in charge of the mining site has also raised questions. None of the responsible parties have publicly commented or provided explanations to the media, deepening frustration and anger among local communities.<\/p>

The site is reportedly operated by private individuals, including R\u00e9v\u00e9rien Hategekimana, known as \u201cAmstel,\u201d Fran\u00e7ois Uwiragiye, nicknamed \u201cMayondori,\u201d and Vincent Ndagijimana, under the company COMEBU, which specializes in coltan extraction. According to several testimonies, similar accidents occur regularly at these sites, with little being done to prevent them.<\/p>

This latest tragedy has reignited debate over safety in Burundi\u2019s mining sector. Many are calling on authorities to strengthen oversight, enforce strict safety standards, and require mining operators to provide insurance for their workers.<\/p>

It is worth recalling that the President of the Republic, \u00c9variste Ndayishimiye, recently visited the site and questioned the management of mining revenues, asking: \u201cWhere do the resources from these mines go?\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>
