The absence of several political parties was notable during the official ceremony marking the launch of preparations for the presidential election. What are the reasons behind this situation?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the political capital Gitega, the official ceremony launching the civic and electoral education campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election was held.<\/p>

This event was graced by the presence of the President of the Republic, \u00c9variste Ndayishimiye, as well as the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI), the body responsible for organizing elections. The ceremony was expected to bring together various political parties preparing to take part in the upcoming electoral process. However, it was marked by the notable absence of several political formations from the opposition to the CNDD-FDD.<\/p>

Among the absent parties were: FRODEBU, CNL, UPRONA, CDP, CODEBU, and FEDS-SANGIRA.<\/p>

What are the reasons behind the decision of these political parties not to attend this event in Gitega? Could this signal a possible disengagement from the 2027 electoral process?<\/strong><\/p>

While a definitive answer remains difficult at this stage, available information indicates that these parties chose not to participate due to persistent concerns related to the conduct of elections, particularly those held in 2025. These political formations continue to express reservations regarding the transparency and credibility of that electoral process and have repeatedly called for the establishment of an inclusive dialogue \u2014 initiatives which, according to available reports, have not yet been followed up.<\/p>

It should be recalled that the legislative elections of June 2025 were strongly contested by several opposition parties, which denounced significant irregularities and rejected the announced results. At the time, the Head of State had expressed willingness to engage in consultations with political actors in order to better prepare for the 2027 elections. However, such consultations do not appear to have been implemented so far.<\/p>

Furthermore, these parties reportedly submitted formal requests to the CENI seeking discussions on observed shortcomings, without receiving any response.<\/p>

According to consistent sources within the Presidency, these political formations also recently addressed a letter to the President of the Republic requesting an audience; this request is likewise said to have remained unanswered to date.<\/p>

In this context, the absence of these political actors at the ceremony appears to reflect broader concerns regarding the inclusiveness, transparency, and credibility of the electoral process leading up to 2027.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
