Throughout the week, the organization monitored, collected, and verified information on various cases of violence, arbitrary repression, enforced disappearances, murders, harassment, and abuses of authority committed by certain state representatives.
This report aims to document these incidents and call for justice, transparency, and respect for citizens\u2019 rights.<\/p>

The incidents described below illustrate a worrying deterioration of security conditions and public freedoms in several regions of the country. They occur in a tense post-election context marked by the instrumentalization of security and judicial institutions against ordinary citizens, opposition members, journalists, and other figures perceived as critical of the authorities.<\/p>

Assault in Ruyigi<\/strong>
On 29 June 2025, Venerand Mvuyekure (67), a supporter of Agathon Rwasa, was violently beaten in Muyebe (Ruyigi) by Imbonerakure members over alleged comments regarding the elections. Seriously injured, he was hospitalized.

Gasarara: Six people brutally killed<\/strong>
On 30 June 2025, on Gasarara hill (Nyabiraba commune, Bujumbura Rural), six residents accused of witchcraft were killed, some burned alive. A list of other potential targets is circulating, raising fears of further killings.
The Bujumbura High Court later tried about twenty perpetrators: some were sentenced to life imprisonment, others to 20 years. King Umurundi Freedom welcomes this judicial action while emphasizing that mob justice arises from poor governance.<\/p>

Kabezi: A woman illegally detained<\/strong>
Gloriose NTAHIRAJA, a mother of six living in Mboza, was arrested on 20 June 2025 after a family dispute and falsely accused of attempted murder.
Released on 7 July 2025, she remains a symbol of the arbitrary detentions denounced by KUF.<\/p>

Mpanda: A body discovered<\/strong>
On 6 July 2025, an unidentified man (aged 35\u201340) was found dead near the Musenyi River between Mpanda and Rugazi (West Bujumbura).
KUF demands a thorough investigation to identify the victim and bring the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>

Butanyerera: Merchant fatally assaulted<\/strong>
On 14 July 2025, Donatien NDUWIMANA, a merchant, was assaulted by Jean Pierre BUTOYI, the president of the Tangara court, along with two police officers.
He died on 18 July 2025 at Ngozi Hospital.
The three suspects were arrested, but judicial proceedings are still pending.
KUF has written to the President of the Republic to demand justice.<\/p>

Butanyerera: Merchant murdered<\/strong>
Adronis UWIMANA, a young merchant, was found dead inside a sack near a river.
KUF demands truth and justice.<\/p>

Gitega: Missing police officer<\/strong>
Claver BAKUNDUKIZE, 42, a police officer at the National Police Inspectorate General, went missing on 9 July 2025.
There have been no updates since. KUF calls for an urgent investigation.<\/p>

Butanyerera (Kirundo): Controversial release of a teacher<\/strong>
A teacher accused of raping a 16-year-old girl was released under questionable circumstances.
KUF demands his arrest and a fair judicial process.<\/p>

RCF Nyunganira: Alleged financial fraud<\/strong>
Citizens lost their savings in the RCF Nyunganira microfinance institution, led by Zabulon Kuzoryimana, who has disappeared.
KUF calls on the Bank of the Republic of Burundi (BRB) to intervene and protect depositors.<\/p>

Bujumbura: Harassment of a citizen<\/strong>
Jean Pierre NDAYIKEZA has faced harassment since 2017 following a domestic dispute with an employee of the Parliament.
KUF denounces this abuse and calls for justice.<\/p>

Butanyerera: Retired soldier missing<\/strong>
D\u00e9sir\u00e9 NDAYISENGA, 48, disappeared on 27 July 2025 after leaving Kirema on a motorcycle (registration GA1259).
KUF demands the opening of an investigation.<\/p>

Mabanda\u2013Burunga: Two women raped and murdered<\/strong>
Georgette NISHIMWE and Jeanine NYABENDA were raped and killed on 28 July 2025 in Nyamugari, Gitara zone, Nyanza commune.
The suspected perpetrators, members of the Imbonerakure, are on the run.
KUF calls for an independent investigation and sanctions against those responsible.<\/p>

Bwambarangwe: More than 300 people arrested<\/strong>
Since 26 July 2025, about 300 commission agents have been arrested, accused of illegal price manipulation.
KUF denounces this arbitrary repression and demands their immediate release.<\/p>

Conclusion<\/strong>
The month of October 2025 continues to be marked by a wave of serious human rights violations: arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and sexual violence.<\/p>

King Umurundi Freedom reiterates its call for:
\u2014 An independent justice system,
\u2014 Protection of victims,
