On 4 July 2026, our organization issued an alert regarding the abduction of NDAYISABA Déogratias, who had been apprehended earlier that day by police officers assigned to the intelligence service while he was at the Gare du Nord bus station in Bujumbura.
According to credible information gathered by our organization, NDAYISABA Déogratias is currently being held at the headquarters of the National Intelligence Service (SNR), located near Regina Mundi Cathedral in Bujumbura. The information available indicates that he has been subjected to ill-treatment but remains alive.
At this stage, the reasons for his arrest and any charges that may have been brought against him remain unknown.
We call on the Independent National Human Rights Commission (CNIDH) to closely monitor this case, ensure that his fundamental rights are fully respected, and take all necessary measures to prevent him from being subjected to any further ill-treatment.
