A family has been left without news of a father since the end of his workday, under circumstances that remain unclear.
The person concerned is GAHUNGU Thadée, aged 49, originally from Karama Hill, Rango Commune, Kayanza Province (former administrative division), now attached to Butanyerera Province. He resides in Bujumbura, Musaga Zone, Mugere Commune, where he lives with his wife and their three children.
A former member of the Burundian Armed Forces (ex-FAB), GAHUNGU Thadée currently works as a driver for the private security company Garda World Security, whose headquarters are located in downtown Bujumbura near the Public Garden.
In the course of his duties, he alternated between periods of service with accommodation at his workplace and periods of daily return to his home. At the time of the incident, he was in his normal period of returning to his family.
According to information provided by his employer, on Friday, January 16, 2026, GAHUNGU Thadée left his post at around 5:00 p.m., at the regular end of his shift, heading home. However, he never reached his residence.
Subsequently, gathered information indicates that Thadée met a friend who had previously contacted him by phone. The friend reportedly took him to a bar located in Gasekebuye neighborhood, Musaga Zone, to have a drink.
Shortly afterward, three intelligence agents, including two in police uniform and one in civilian clothes, arrived at the location in a TI vehicle with tinted windows and no license plates. They took GAHUNGU Thadée into the vehicle and headed toward the city center.
Noticing this prolonged and unusual absence, the family made several attempts to contact him by phone calls and via WhatsApp, without success. His phones have been unreachable since then.
The following day, with no contact resumed and noting that he had not reported to work, his supervisors also attempted to reach him, likewise without success.
This situation raises serious concerns about his condition and safety.
Consequently, the family and his workplace authorities are requesting the intervention of the competent authorities and call on anyone with relevant information to help establish the facts.
