A new politically motivated act of violence was reported on Saturday, May 28, 2022, in Gisuru commune, Ruyigi province, where an elderly woman was brutally assaulted by individuals identified as members of the Imbonerakure youth league.
NSABIMANA Joselyne, 60 years old, a resident of Kinama hill, was attacked around 4:00 PM while returning from the fields. She was ambushed by two known Imbonerakure: IKORIKWIGOMBWA Clément and GITENGE (a former driver for the Gisuru commune), who violently beat her.
According to witnesses, they accused her of being married to a supporter of the opposition party CNL and of refusing to dissociate from him. The assault was extremely violent — she was beaten to the point of losing several teeth.
She was rushed to Gisuru hospital where her condition remains critical, as shown in the images received.
King Umurundi Freedom strongly condemns this politically targeted violence and urges the authorities to ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.
