Residents of Mukozi Quarter, located in Kamenge Zone, Ntahangwa Commune, Bujumbura Province, are raising concerns over a persistent shortage of safe drinking water. They say they have been without water for several days, both in their homes and at public standpipes. As the images in our possession show, it is hard to believe that water has flowed from these standpipes in recent days.
According to residents, whenever the water supply is restored, it lasts only for a very short time before being cut off again, leaving many people without enough time to collect the water they need. This recurring situation forces families to go for days without reliable access to clean water.
As a result, many households are compelled to purchase water from private vendors to meet their daily needs. Residents report that a jerrycan of water costs between 2,000 and 5,000 Burundian francs, a price that many families, already struggling with poverty, can no longer afford.
The residents of Mukozi Quarter are calling on REGIDESO to take urgent measures to restore a reliable supply of safe drinking water to their neighborhood and put an end to the hardships they endure every day.
