Imbonerakure members allegedly abducted a man and beheaded him before leaving with his head and organs.
Why are those implicated in his death still walking free? Residents are demanding justice and saying no to impunity.
The deceased citizen was NDAYISABA Oscar, 49. He lived in Kivoga Hill, Murehe Zone, Mbuye Commune, Muramvya Province. He was married and left behind a wife and five children. He worked as a craftsman and mason.
The Killing of NDAYISABA Oscar
Before his death, Oscar had reportedly been suspected of witchcraft in the area for some time. However, there appeared to be no evidence supporting these accusations. Despite this, the suspicions persisted, and he was at times accused of causing illnesses or deaths among residents of the hill.
On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Oscar was allegedly arrested by Imbonerakure members led by NIYONKURU Jodos, also known as Babu, who is described as the Imbonerakure leader on Murehe Hill.
According to the information gathered, his arrest allegedly took place at around 2:00 p.m.
The Imbonerakure members allegedly then took him to a small field near a coffee-processing plant, on Taba Hill, close to Mabuga Market.
According to the information gathered, he was allegedly killed and then beheaded there. The alleged perpetrators reportedly left with his head and organs.
Residents later reportedly discovered his body without its head and with some organs missing.
What particularly shocked the local population, according to the information gathered, was that administrative authorities allegedly ordered that the victim be buried quickly, while the people suspected of involvement in his death had not been arrested.
A Family Plunged into Grief
Information gathered by King Umurundi Freedom indicates that the victim’s family has been left in deep distress.
According to this information, following Oscar’s death, members of his family were also allegedly intimidated in an attempt to discourage them from seeking information or pursuing those allegedly responsible for his death.
A King Umurundi Freedom source in the area stated:
“Since their relative was beheaded, they have been living in fear and pain. They were allegedly told that if the case became known, they too could be targeted. We are asking for help so that they do not suffer the same fate.”
Residents Demand Justice: No to Impunity
Residents of Murehe Hill are calling for the full truth about the death of NDAYISABA Oscar to be established.
They are calling for those implicated, particularly those allegedly led by NIYONKURU Jodos, to be brought before the courts so that responsibility for Oscar’s death can be established and, if guilt is proven, those responsible can be punished in accordance with the law.
King Umurundi Freedom: “No to Impunity”
