Lifeless Body Found in Gitega: Who Killed This Woman? The Public Demands an Investigation

Woman’s Body Found in Gitega: Shocking Murder Sparks Outrage and Calls for Justice

On Sunday, December 21, 2025, the lifeless body of a woman was discovered in a ravine beneath the Mwegu neighborhood, in downtown Gitega — the political capital of Burundi.

The body was found by children fetching water, who immediately alerted nearby residents. According to eyewitnesses, the victim is a woman estimated to be around 35 years old. No visible injuries were observed, raising suspicions that she may have been strangled and later dumped at the site.

Sources suggest she was likely killed elsewhere and abandoned in the ravine, as local residents said they did not recognize her and had never seen her in the area. Law enforcement arrived at the scene accompanied by Red Cross workers, who recovered the body.

Residents are demanding a serious investigation to identify the woman and prevent a hasty burial without truth or justice. It is vital that her family be located and those responsible be held accountable.
