Dr Aimable NDABEREYE, President of the Syndicate of General Practitioners of Burundi (SYMEGEB), has been missing since Thursday, February 6, 2025.
According to the information available, Dr Aimable NDABEREYE was contacted by officers from the intelligence services and instructed to report to the central intelligence headquarters in Bujumbura between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Since then, no information has been obtained regarding his whereabouts, and his mobile phone has remained unreachable.

King Umurundi Freedom contacted its sources within the intelligence services, who deny that Dr Aimable NDABEREYE is being held at the central intelligence headquarters. As of now, deep concern prevails among his colleagues and fellow members of SYMEGEB, who fear that he may have been subjected to ill-treatment. They are therefore calling for urgent action.
Supporters of Dr Aimable NDABEREYE are urging the security authorities and the National Independent Human Rights Commission (CNIDH) to intervene promptly so that his location may be clarified and his health condition made known.
It should be recalled that nearly two weeks earlier, five doctors, all members of the SYMEGEB, were arrested and detained at the central intelligence headquarters after demanding a salary increase. These events triggered a nationwide crackdown on doctors, forcing some to flee the country while others went into hiding. This situation has led to serious disruptions in the functioning of health centers and hospitals across several regions of Burundi.
