As part of the UMUSEKE Programme, the human rights organizations Ligue Iteka and King Umurundi Freedom denounce the reported conduct, since March 2026, of paramilitary training in Kigarika, Ruyigi Commune, Buhumuza Province.
According to information gathered by the two organizations, former combatants, Imbonerakure, as well as foreign recruits, are reportedly receiving training in the use of weapons and explosives.
The two organizations, represented respectively by Anschaire NIKOYAGIZE and Vianney NIZIGIYIMANA, call on the Burundian authorities to provide explanations regarding the nature and objectives of this training and urge the international community to exercise increased vigilance in view of the potential risks to regional security.
