Where is Dr. RURAGAHIYE Pierre Claver? Is he safe?
A Burundian citizen has been reported missing after being intercepted and forcibly taken away by suspected intelligence and security agents, according to multiple eyewitness accounts.
The person concerned is Dr. RURAGAHIYE Pierre Claver, 45 years old, a member of the CNL political party led by Honorable Agathon Rwasa. He originates from Rwingiri Hill, Bugendana Commune, Gitega Province. He was working at the Hospitals of the Sisters located in Musongati Commune, Rutana Province, where he also resides.
🔶 Circumstances of the interception and disappearance
On January 30, 2025, at around 2:00 p.m., a white double-cabin pickup truck with tinted windows arrived at the Hospitals of the Sisters in Musongati. Inside the vehicle were two police officers in official uniform.
According to witnesses, the officers exited the vehicle and proceeded directly to Dr. RURAGAHIYE’s medical consultation office, where they intercepted him while he was attending his professional duties. He was then forced into the vehicle, which immediately left the premises.
Since that moment, no official information has been provided regarding his whereabouts or legal status. His colleagues and family members have repeatedly tried to reach him via his mobile phone, which remains unreachable, raising serious concerns about his safety, physical integrity, and health condition.
🔶 Call to the competent authorities
In light of this alarming situation, concerned individuals and organizations call upon the Burundian security authorities and the National Independent Human Rights Commission (CNIDH) (@CNIDH_Bdi) to urgently intervene in order to:
● Disclose Dr. RURAGAHIYE Pierre Claver’s place of detention;
● Guarantee his protection against any form of ill-treatment;
● Promptly inform his family and colleagues of his situation.
