About King Umurundi Freedom
King Umurundi Freedom is a non-profit civil society organization, born from a citizen initiative called King Umurundi, known since 2018 for its warnings on human rights violations in Burundi.
It was created to document, publish and alert on fundamental rights violations, corruption and abuses of governance.
We work to promote justice, transparency and accountability, by mobilizing citizens to defend their rights and encouraging structural reforms through advocacy and the publication of credible reports.
Our mission goes beyond simple observation — we seek to be a driver of change and the voice of those who are not heard, so that truth and dignity are protected at all levels of society.
King Umurundi Freedom aspires to build a Burundi based on the rule of law, good governance and social justice – a nation where every person benefits from equality, respect and participation in democratic life.
Mission
Monitor, document and report human rights violations, acts of corruption and economic malfeasance. Through targeted awareness, rigorous advocacy and the publication of credible reports, we mobilize citizens as well as national and international institutions to encourage structural reforms.
We are firmly committed to promoting social justice, transparency, accountability and good governance in order to contribute to an inclusive, democratic and equitable Burundi.

The organization works for a society where human rights are fully respected, where transparency is a norm, and where every citizen actively participates in the equitable and democratic development of the country.
