MISSING PERSON ALERT: INNOCENT NDAYIZEYE ABDUCTED IN BUJUMBURA

A Burundian citizen has been reported missing since Wednesday, June 18, 2025, after being forcibly taken by police officers in the city of Bujumbura. His family and relatives are urgently calling for information regarding his whereabouts and safety.

The missing person is Innocent NDAYIZEYE, 38 years old, a resident of Gisandema, Muyaga neighborhood, Gihosha Zone, Ntahangwa Commune. He is well known for his work as a house rental broker (commonly referred to as a commission agent).

🔶 Circumstances of the abduction

According to multiple eyewitness accounts, Innocent NDAYIZEYE was abducted at around 3:00 p.m. while standing in front of a shop near a bar commonly known as “Resto Fungus at Lenine’s place”, in the area called Ku Matafari, Nyabagere neighborhood, Gihosha Zone.

A police pick-up truck carrying six police officers reportedly passed by slowly at first, as if searching for someone. A short distance ahead, the vehicle suddenly made a U-turn and returned to where Innocent was standing. The officers then jumped out, forcibly restrained him, and pushed him into the vehicle before driving away at high speed.

Witnesses believe that someone inside the police vehicle may have identified Innocent, as the vehicle’s behavior during its first pass appeared deliberate and suspicious.

🔶 Growing concern and call for action

Since the incident, no information has been provided regarding Innocent NDAYIZEYE’s location or condition. His phone remains switched off, and his family says they have not been informed of any charges or reasons for his abduction. Deeply concerned for his safety, they are urgently appealing for help.

They call on the competent authorities and security services to clarify his whereabouts, ensure his safety, and guarantee respect for his fundamental rights.
