Concerning Disappearance of Tharcisse NDIREKURAMBA,Teacher and CNL Activist.

Tharcisse NDIREKURAMBA, 42, was forcibly taken early this morning by alleged intelligence agents, assisted by members of the Imbonerakure, on Kariba Hill, Mwaro commune, Gitega province.

🔶 Victim Profile


Originally from Kariba, Tharcisse is a teacher at Lycée Saint Pierre de Nyangwa in Gishubi commune (Gitega). He splits his time between his home village and his family in Bujumbura. He is also known for his political involvement with the CNL party, aligned with Honorable Agathon Rwasa.

🔶 Incident Details

Around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025, a double-cabin vehicle with tinted windows arrived at his residence. Inside were three intelligence agents, one dressed in a police uniform, accompanied by two Imbonerakure identified as Augustin (principal of Rubamvyi Primary School) and Sostène (a regular collaborator with local intelligence).
Without presenting a warrant, they woke Mr.

NDIREKURAMBA, allowed him a few moments to dress, then tied his hands behind his back with a rope and forcibly put him into their vehicle.
Since this arbitrary arrest, no information has been provided regarding his place of detention or the reasons for his arrest. His family and the residents of Kariba are deeply concerned for his safety and request that the security authorities clarify his location and ensure his well-being.

🔶 Call to the CNIDH

The organization King Umurundi Freedom expresses serious concern and calls on the National Independent Human Rights Commission (CNIDH) to urgently take up this case to guarantee the physical integrity and fundamental rights of Mr. Tharcisse NDIREKURAMBA.
