The Woman Previously Reported Missing Has Been Released and Reunited with Her Family
Yesterday, we raised the alarm about the case of HAVYARIMANA Juliette, a Burundian citizen who was arrested on December 15, 2025, upon her return from Rwanda, where part of her family resides.
After six days of secret detention, we learned that she had allegedly been held discreetly in Kayanza by Commissioner Pascal NSHIMIRIMANA. Following our alert, some authorities reportedly raised concerns, which ultimately led to her release.
On the evening of Monday, December 22, 2025, Juliette was released and has now returned home. She is spending the night with her loved ones.
We thank everyone who helped raise awareness and support her release, especially since no charges were ever filed against her.
We also call for an end to the practice of treating Burundians returning from Rwanda — a neighboring country — as enemies. They are simply coming back to their country of origin and should not be subjected to suspicion or abuse.
