A 46-year-old citizen, father of seven children and member of the CNL party, was abducted by intelligence service agents and has been missing since April 2, 2025.
The missing person is NKUREMBONE Fidèle, 46 years old, residing at Maramvya 15, Commune Mutimbuzi, Province of Bujumbura, in the area known as Kw’isamariro. He is a father of seven children and an active member of the CNL party. He works daily as a market trader in the local market.
🔶️ Arrest of NKUREMBONE Fidèle
On April 2, 2025, around 7:00 a.m., NKUREMBONE Fidèle left his home to go to the market. After approximately 30 meters, he was intercepted by a white Double Cabin vehicle, parked at the Taxi Velo parking area.
Among the officers present was Athia NDUWIMANA, a known intelligence service agent. An unidentified person familiar with NKUREMBONE Fidèle reportedly told the officers:
“He is the one to be arrested; he has the bag.”
NKUREMBONE Fidèle tried to defend himself and retain his bag, but he was forcibly put into the vehicle, which immediately drove away, according to multiple eyewitnesses.
🔶️ Background and Concerns
NKUREMBONE Fidèle had recently returned from Dubai, where he left Burundi in 2022 for security reasons. He came back in December 2024, after experiencing health problems.
According to King Umurundi Freedom, he had been closely monitored by intelligence services, suspected of links with armed groups operating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Since his abduction, his whereabouts remain unknown, causing great concern among his family, neighbors, and close associates.
They urgently call on the security forces and the National Independent Human Rights Commission (CNIDH) to intervene to determine his location and ensure his well-being.
Our organization strongly condemns this arbitrary abduction and demands the immediate location of NKUREMBONE Fidèle, the protection of his family, and the prosecution of those responsible in accordance with the law.
